Gardaí investigating assaults in Nenagh and Newport

Gardaí are investigating two separate incidents of assault that were reported in Nenagh and Newport last week.

In Newport, a man received injuries to his face and teeth when he was reportedly assaulted at Church Road around 12.30pm on Tuesday of last week. Another assault, in which the injured party was a female, was reported at Pearse St, Nenagh, last Thursday. It is understood that the incident, which occurred around 2.45pm, arose from a dispute over a taxi fare.

 

Meanwhile a female has appeared in court after she was arrested under the Public Order Act on two consecutive days. It is alleged that the woman was intoxicated on Toomevara's main street at 5.30pm last Wednesday. The same woman was reportedly arrested for public disorder at St Mary of the Rosary Church in Nenagh at 6.20pm last Thursday.

 

 

 

Garda meetings over burglaries

 

 

 

Local gardaí are encouraging members of Community Alert and Text Alert groups to hold their AGMs now as incidents of burglary typically increase at this time of year.

 

Meetings can be arranged by contacting your local garda station. Groups that have not already had their AGM are advised to hold the meeting as soon as possible.

 

Several theft and burglary incidents have been reported in the Nenagh Garda District over recent days. In one incident, 20 cylinders of gas were stolen along with several bags of coal and other items at a fuel station on Nenagh's Limerick Road. It is understood that the culprits wore hoods and may have used a Ford Mondeo car in the incident, which occurred in the early hours of last Friday.

 

Around the same timeframe, €400 worth of diesel was stolen from a yard at Youghalarra, Newtown. An Ivor Williams trailer valued at €2,750 was stolen from premises at Barna, Newport, some time between Friday and Saturday last.

 

A house was burglary was reported at Roscrea's Templemore road last Monday at 8pm. Forced entry was gained and rooms were ransacked, though it appears that nothing was taken. Also on Monday, criminal damage was caused to a patio door in Nenagh's Millersbrook estate. It is understood that four males were seen trying to gain access to the house.

 

Another incident of criminal damage occurred at Abbeys Lane, Roscrea, in the early hours of Sunday last. The front door of a house was extensively damaged.

 

There have been further reports of grocery thefts at shopping centres in Nenagh and Roscrea in recent days. Gardaí also seized a small quanitity of cannabis herb when they searched two individuals at Martyr's Road and Abbey St in Nenagh last Tuesday week.
