Nenagh music theatre group to represent Ireland in LA!
Students and teachers from the Musical Theatre Academy Nenagh have qualified for the World Championships of Performing Arts in Los Angeles, California, next July.
The Musical Theatre Academy Nenagh will be representing Ireland, amongst 50 other countries, in all aspects of musical theatre at the 21st Annual World Championships in Long Beach.
Two groups from the academy have made the Irish team. The first group, of seven, is made up of: Lily Purcell, Caroline Browne, Emer Tuohy, Megan Maher, Sofija Sture, Elizabeth O'Meara and Emily O'Dwyer. The second group is a trio, made up of: Stephanie Browne, Billie Kelly and Caroline Browne.
They will compete before 75 judges in many competitions including dance: jazz, tap, variety, MT character and singing: broadway, variety, world, pop, jazz/soul. They will travel to LA on June 28th for 10 days taking part in the Worldstars Boot Camp, before competing in the championships.
The Musical Theatre Academy Nenagh was founded in January of this year by Stephanie Browne. The academy offer classes in the dance styles of jazz and tap, singing and acting. So far this year the academy have had great national success, making it to the Bord Gáis Energy Theatres search for ‘the best Billy Elliot inspired routine’, All Ireland Scór Finalists, All Ireland Finalists in ‘The Search for Shirley’, amongst many other competitions.
However, this amazing news comes with a big cost to get these teams to California. They are appealing to any companies, businesses or individuals who may be interested in sponsoring the teams to please get in touch. Also, they would ask for the community to support their fundraising events, which will be held throughout the year.
