Abbey Machinery director on Entrepreneur of the Year TV show

Monday 24th October sees the last five finalists in this year’s EY Entrepreneur of The Year™ series share their stories on UTV Ireland at 8pm, as all 24 finalists prepare for the prestigious Gala Awards Ceremony, which will be broadcast on UTV Ireland on Thursday October 27th at 10.40pm.

In Monday’s episode, we meet entrepreneurs Clodagh Cavanagh of Abbey Machinery; Leslie and Raymond Codd of Codd Mushrooms; Mark McCloskey of Oneview Healthcare; Stephen Vernon of Green Property and Brendan Mooney of Kainos Group plc.

Clodagh Cavanagh, granddaughter of the Abbey Machinery founders, joined the company in 2004 as a trainee accountant and in 2012 took over as Managing Director. Abbey Machinery, a third generation family business based in Tipperary since the 1800s, specialises in the manufacture and distribution of agricultural equipment, specifically in slurry, muck handling and feeding equipment.

In a male-dominated industry, Clodagh never finds it a challenge and she fondly describes how she has taken after her grandmother: “I always wanted to be like my grandmother. She was a very strong businesswoman in the 1940s, which was really unheard of.'

The company employs around 100 people throughout Ireland and the UK, and currently exports to Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, France, Iceland and the UK.

We also get a glimpse of the judges during the final stages in deciding the fate of the EY Entrepreneur of The Year 24 finalists, all of whom are business people who have achieved success in their respective fields.

The glittering televised Awards Gala hosted by Dermot Murnaghan and Pamela Flood will be shown on UTV Ireland on Thursday 27th October at 10.40pm, announcing three category winners, with one category winner representing the overall winner of EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2016.
