Knotweed to be tackled in Tipp

The damaging invasive species has spread along roadsides as well as watercourses and wastegrounds, and has become a problem all over Ireland.

Director of Services Marcus O'Connor told a meeting of Tipperary Co Council that TII has a pilot scheme in place to tackle the knotweed on national routes in Tipperary. The work, which will be starting shortly, is quite specialised. Cutting can encourage the spread of knotweed, he said.

Mr O'Connor was responding to concern from Cllr Andy Moloney (Ind), who said there is a company setting up in Tipperary with the expertise to deal with Japanese Knotweed.
