National award for Tipperary Fire Service

Tipperary Fire Service received a Public Service award at the National Irish Safety Organisation (NISO) awards in Killarney last weekend.

It is the third year in a row for Tipp Fire Service to win the award. Members of the local service were congratulated at this week's meeting of Tipperary Co Council.

Chief Fire Officer Dave Carroll said the award is a great endorsement of the fire department, which puts a lot of effort into safety. Mr Carroll said there are around 120 personnel in his department, people working a dangerous job.

Tipperary Fire Service, which meets response targets that are set out nationally, won the NISO for its management of health and safety at work. Mr Carroll said workplace safety measures require finance and he took the opportunity to thank Tipperary Co Council management in this regard.
