Girls from the Zif school in South Hebron - one of the projects supported by visiting Palestinian speaker Hamed Qawasmeh, who is speaking at Nenagh Arts Centre on Thursday.

Palestinian education talk at Nenagh Arts Centre

This Thursday, October 13th, Palestinian Hamed Qawasmeh will make a special visit to Nenagh Arts Centre at 7.30pm.

In a talk titled 'Education Under Occupation', Hamed will speak about his work to support the education of young Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian Territories and the work of Hebron International Resource Network (HIRN). HIRN supports a number of education projects in Hebron such as classroom building, kindergarten support and innovative ICT projects.

The visit is taking place as part of a national tour from October 11th to 15th, organised by Irish returned human rights volunteers with EAPPI.org. Local community activist Gearóid Fitzgibbon originally met Hamed in 2009 during his time there as a volunteer in Hebron in the West Bank.

According to Gearóid: “I met many heroes during my stay in the West Bank. Hamed is one of the quiet heroes. I saw first hand his work supporting school transport for children living in remote areas, scholarships for kids to 3rd level, as well as many other initiatives. I am looking forward to people in Tipperary meeting him.”

Entry is free - donations welcome. All proceeds go directly to Hebron International Resource Network.
