Nenagh lecture focuses on freedom fighter Sean Bergin

History talks continue at Steeples in Nenagh next week with 'From Nenagh to Loughglynn; the Sean Bergin Story'.

This talk looks at the life of Sean Bergin, who lost his life in Co Roscommon during the War of Independence. Son of Michael Bergin of Silver St, Nenagh, he was only 20 years of age when he died serving as O/C of the South Roscommon Flying Column.

We will look at his short life and the circumstances in which he died - it was rumoured at the time that a fellow Tipperary man played a part in his death. The famous ballad 'The Woodlands of Loughglynn' was written in memory of the event.

Come along to Steeples at 11am on Monday October 10th and hear this interesting story of one of Nenagh's sons who gave his life in securing our freedom.
