Willie Keane

Concern poker classic in Lorrha

Intrepid hillwalker Willie Keane of Nenagh has taken on another Concern mountaineering challenge in aid of the victims of last year's 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal.

Earlier this month Willie set off on the gruelling Climb 4 Concern, a four peaks in four days challenge between Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. This Friday night he'll be holding a poker classic at the Friars Tavern in Lorrha to raise funds for Concern's Nepal appeal to help rebuild devastated lives.

More than 8,500 people were killed and another 20,000 were injured when the earthquake hit in April 2015. More than 500,000 homes were destroyed.

Willie travelled from Dublin to Holyhead to climb Mount Snowdon. That night, he moved on to Penrith in time to tackle England's highest peak, Scafell Pike, the following morning. Saturday found Willie in Scotland to take on Ben Nevis. Then on Sunday, he and his exhausted companions took a ferry to Larne so that they could climb Sliabh Donard in Co Down before returning to Dublin again that night.

The poker classic in Lorrha will take place this Friday night, September 16th. All are welcome to join in the five-card draw, which will commence at 9pm. All proceeds will be donated to the Concern Nepal earthquake appeal.
