Gus Kearney and Owen O Neill in the trusty 205 GTI

Tough Tipperary Outing For Team Sepam Sport on home Stonethrowers Rally

This weekend’s Sepam Stonethrowers Rally saw 3 of the Team Sepam Sport crews tackle the teams home event, ran out of Sepam’s hometown of Clonmel. Gus Kearney was out in his Mitusbishi Lancer Evo 9, with his brother Andrew competing in his Vauxhall Nova. Gus Kearney Sr was also out in his Peugeot 205 GTI. All cars prepared as always by Fermanagh preparation expert Gerry McGarrity. Unfortunately, Pat Kearney and Alistair Wyllie were unable to compete this weekend due to work commitments.

Gus Jr was using the event as a pre Ulster Rally test and along with co-driver Tommy Hayes, and they started the event on a good pace, right in the mix of the Group N battle in the top 3. Unfortunately the Tipperary crew’s event came to a premature end on stage 2; broken wheel studs cutting the crews day short. Gus and Tommy though reported themselves as happy with their pace and encouraged for the upcoming Ulster Rally.

Andrew Kearney, teamed up with fellow Tipp man James Lowry, wrung the neck of the little 1300 Vauxhall Nova all day in spectacular fashion to finish a fantastic 2nd in Class 9 and 59th overall.

Gus Kearney Sr, partnered with Andrew’s regular navigator Owen O’Neill, rolled back the years to finish the challenging Tipperary event in 73rd overall, steadily increasing his pace throughout the event. Perhaps the bug has bitten again?!

The next event for Team Sepam Sort is the John Mulholland Motors Ulster Rally on the 19-20th August, where Gus Jr and his brother Pat will continue their Clonakilty Blackpudding Irish Tarmac Rally Championship campaign.

All at Team Sepam Sport would like to thank Tipperary Motor Club along with all the competitors, officials and spectators for making this yet another memorable and enjoyable Stonethrowers Rally.
