Free screening of new Nenagh film

All are welcome to attend the screening this Saturday of a new short film shot in Nenagh.

'Deirdre' is the work of UK based director and actress Jo Southwell, daughter of Hanora Kelly from Templederry. Last year Jo returned home to make her short film, a dark love story centring on a woman who falls in love with a Traveller and has a child with him, something she tries to keep secret.

'Deirdre' was shot at several locations around Nenagh and features dozens of recognisable faces, even if only for a fleeting glance. Among the local actors are Martin Grace, Seán Butler, Christina Hughes and Elaine Fox.

The Nenagh locations include Wolfe Tone Terrace, St Mary's Convent Primary School and the rear of Tyone Mills. Another scene involving horses was filmed at Hanley's Place.

Also starring high profile actors India Mullen ('Red Rock'), Sean Doyle ('Fair City') and Zeb Moore ('The Quiet Hour') in the lead roles, 'Deirdre' is the first step towards production of a full-length feature film, 'Deirdre of the Sorrows'. Jo hopes to make the full-length early next year and plans to return to Nenagh to shoot more scenes.

Having received international acclaim for her first short film ('Holding On', 2012), Jo went on to write and direct a number of other films with Aston Productions, including 'Cover Me'. She has already been selected for the Hollywood International Moving Pictures Festival, which takes place in January.

Jo is inviting all cast, crew and anyone else who helped to make 'Deirdre' in Nenagh to the public screening of the short film at Nenagh Arts Centre this Saturday, August 13th. There will be two showings, at 3pm and 7pm. Tickets are free and can be booked from https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/preview-deirdre-tickets-26321532412

Local businesses interested in the production of the feature film are also invited to attend a press night taking place in the Abbey Court Hotel this Friday night. See www.josouthwell.com for more.
