Pony racing festival for Roscrea

The first of what is hoped to become a series of pony racing festivals for Roscrea will take place outside the town this Sunday, July 3rd.

A sub-committee under Roscrea Community Development Council (RCDC), headed by Shane Lee, has organised a 'Roscrea Horse & Pony Racing Festival and Family Day', which will take place at 2pm on Sunday at Brockera, off the old Limerick Road. A free bus is available from outside Shaw’s at Market Square from 1pm on Sunday.

This will prove to be a unique family day for Roscrea, and it is hoped that the festival will become an annual event, with all the profits from same going to local charities.

The event is being organised in conjunction with the Midlands Horse and Pony Racing Association, to whom the Roscrea committee is very grateful for their assistance and support. The committee is also very grateful for the enormous support of all local businesses and would urge people to support local businesses in this difficult time for them, as they contribute greatly to creating and empowering local community through events such as this.

The first race takes place at 2pm. The events on the day will include (in addition of course to a number of pony races) a donkey derby race, sheaf tossing, bouncing castles, and lots of family friendly entertainment.

All wishing to help out on the day will be most welcome and in this regard there will be a meeting of the sub-committee in the Abbey Hall on this Wednesday, June 29th. Final details will also by discussed at the June monthly meeting of RCDC on this Thursday night, June 30th, and which takes place also in the Abbey Hall at 8pm and everyone is welcome, as usual, to attend this open meeting.
