Sonia O'Sullivan to lead out the Great Pink Run

2,400 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year and on Saturday, 27th August 2016 Sonia O’Sullivan will once again lead out the Great Pink Run 2016 with Avonmore Slimline Milk to run for them

Now in its 6th year, the event will attract thousands of entrants for both the timed 10K challenge and the 5K fun run with all funds going to Breast Cancer Ireland’s pioneering research and awareness programmes nationally.

Last year’s run was supported by over 5,200 people and it raised over €130,000 towards research. This year the organisers are hoping to attract close to 6,500 runners, joggers and walkers, many of whom will don elaborate pink costumes, paint their faces and run along to the music.

Aisling Hurley, CEO of Breast Cancer Ireland comments “We are delighted with the success of the Great Pink Run, which has gone from strength to strength raising over €450,000 to support breast cancer research and awareness nationally. Special thanks must go to our long-time supporters and sponsors who ensure that 100% of the funds raised from entries and individual sponsorship goes directly to fund our ongoing efforts. Everyone knows someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer and this is an opportunity to show support and run for them”

Michael Buckley, Brand Manager, Avonmore Slimline Milk also comments, “Avonmore Slimline Milk are very proud to once again be lead sponsor of the Great Pink Run. The atmosphere at last years’ event, our first year being involved, was fantastic and there was a real sense of camaraderie and positive support for a great cause, we look forwarding to building on last year’s success in 2016”.

Registrations are now open at www.breastcancerireland.com/event/great-pink-run or directly at www.greatpinkrun.ie. Registrations entered before 30th June will benefit from an early bird rate.
