The Civil War in Nenagh

On Monday next the popular 'Talking History at Steeples' series continues with 'Caught in the Crossfire; The Civil War in Nenagh'.

John Flannery will look at how the events of the Civil War affected the town of Nenagh. The harsh realities of the time were quickly brought home to the inhabitants of Nenagh with the death of Austin McCurtin in July of 1922. The months that followed saw bloody encounters resulting in several deaths.

The town was rocked by explosion and gunfire and the Workhouse destroyed as former comrades faced each other across the ideological divide. Come along on Monday (11am) and explore how the town struggled to come to terms with the horrors of our worst period in history.
