Borrisokane man's company wins design award

A Borrisokane man recently celebrated winning an award from the Society of British International Designers (SBID) in London.
John Harte is Director of Lateral Design Studio, which won the coveted Residential Product of the Year award 2015.
John's father Brian Harte hailed from Borrisokane, where the snooker club have trophy in his memory. John lived in Borrisokane and was schooled locally up to the Leaving Cert in the 1977. He studied construction and construction drawing before moving to the UK.
“The Borrisokane Vocational School set me on my way to being a quantity surveyor,” John said. “Then I set up and ran Ormond Construction Ltd, a Royal Institute of Bristish Architects (RIBA) award winning company.
“I then changed direction and started designing construction products in 2011. We won the SGD (Society of Garden Designers) Product of the Year 2014.”

Anne Kennedy, who also comes from Borrisokane and has family in the area, is John's partner and co-director of Lateral Design Studio.
Lateral Design Studios' winning SBID product is part of a new range from the company, who specialise in turning functional construction products into pieces of art. The range cleverly combines aesthetic beauty with a high-quality functional product and is available in a wide range of materials including stainless steel, copper, nickel and bronze; some are embellished with mother of pearl or even Swarovski crystals to provide a visually stunning impact.
John said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be three-time finalists, and this time a winner! We are proud and we will be back again next year.”
The awards ceremony, which took place at the Dorchester Hotel, represented industry talent from 41 countries from all creative corners of the world. All of the projects and products from the winners and the finalists are featured in 'The Global Interior Design 2015' coffee table book.
