Kelly to be selected at labour convention

The Labour Party's Selection Convention for the Tipperary constituency is taking place this  in the Anner Hotel, Thurles. Minister Alan Kelly will be the single nomination and the convention is to be chaired by An Tánaiste Joan Burton.

Labour Senator Denis Landy has announced his intention to support the candidature of Minister Alan Kelly in the forthcoming General Election. Senator Landy is a long term Labour public representative in Tipperary spanning over 30 years and after wide consultation among family and supporters has declared his intention to canvass vigorously to ensure that Labour has a representative from Tipperary in the next Dáil.

In public life since 1988 Senator Landy has served as a Town and County Councillor up to 2011 when he was elected to Seanad Éireann. “I believe that Labour can win a seat in Tipperary but a very strong campaign focussed around one candidate is to me is the best strategy for the Party and the County on this occasion and for that reason, as I have done in the past I am putting the Party before myself. I am not seeking the nomination and am backing the candidacy of Alan Kelly. Minister Kelly has delivered to this county from Carrick on Suir to Portroe and everywhere in between on big-ticket issues such as schools, primary health care centres and jobs.@
