Jimmy doyle book launched in thurles this wednesday

The launch of “The Boy Wonder of Hurling”, the story of Tipperary hurling legend the late Jimmy Doyle, will take place at Thurles Sarsfields’ Social Centre on this Wednesday Aug 19th at 7.30 pm.

Written by former Irish Examiner GAA correspondent, Diarmuid O Flynn, and edited by former Tipperary Star Editor, Michael Dundon, the book is published by Sliabh Ban Productions. It will be launched by the President of the GAA, Aogan O Fearghaill before a gathering that will include a host of GAA celebrities, past and current.

The book was to have been launched in July but due to the untimely passing of Jimmy in June, was re-scheduled for August.

In a career that spanned three decades, Jimmy Doyle played in the first of four minor hurling All-Ireland finals in 1954, aged fourteen. He went onto win three minor all-Ireland medals, six senior All-Ireland medals, captaining Tipperary  in 62 and 65, was chosen on the Hurling Team of the Century and the Hurling Team of the Millenium, was Hurler of the Year in 1965, and was the leading championship scorer on several occasions.

A host of the most famous names in hurling  will be attending the launch which is expected to be one of the great GAA events of the year to honour a man everywhere acclaimed as a hurling legend.

To facilitate those wishing to purchase the book beforehand, Sarsfields Social Centre will be open from 6pm onwards. All are welcome.
