Paint a winning portrait

Today, excitement builds as the National Gallery of Ireland announces there are just over two weeks remaining to enter the second annual Hennessy Portrait Prize.  Last year, the inaugural Hennessy Portrait Prize 2014 saw Sligo based artist Nick Miller selected from a shortlist of twelve for his painting Last Sitting, Portrait of Barrie Cooke. Miller was commissioned to produce a portrait of legendary Irish musician and composer, Dónal Lunny. The portrait Dónal Lunny, Playing, was unveiled earlier this year in the National Gallery of Ireland.

The Hennessy Portrait Prize 2015 will be awarded to one artist, who is a resident of Ireland or an Irish citizen living abroad, chosen by a panel of four judges. Application forms for the 2015 competition are online on the National Gallery’s website www.nationalgallery.ie. All submissions must be made online and the deadline for entries is Friday, July 31st. The Hennessy Portrait Prize is open to artists across all disciplines and aims to encourage interest in contemporary portraiture and raise the profile of the National Portrait Collection. The winner will receive a prize of €15,000 and a commission worth €5,000 to produce a portrait for inclusion in the National Portrait Collection.
