Nenagh man Donal Maher of Plan Ireland

Take a hike says nenagh man

Intrepid Nenagh native Donal Maher is is preparing to “take a hike” by urging Tipp adventurers to sign up to one of Plan Ireland’s exciting international challenges.

Donal is Head of Finance with Plan Ireland, a children’s development charity, and is asking people to join one of their international challenges for an exhilarating experience to raise funds for some of the world’s poorest people.
This year, Plan Ireland is building on the success of previous years' challenges by adding a third adventure to its annual series; a trip to scale the stunning Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.
This year’s events are: Mount Kilimanjaro – September 25th-October 4th - This seven-day Kilimanjaro climb to the summit of Africa’s highest mountain is a once in a lifetime adventure;
Nepal – October 24th-November 1st - This nine-day Himalayan trek across the Annapurra foothills is one of the most amazing trekking routes in Nepal with spectacular Himalayan mountain scenery;
Great Ethiopian Run - November 20th-November 25th - The Great Ethiopian Run is an experience to behold. Run at 10,000 ft, this 10km route is Africa’s highest and most scenic run.
In addition to the spectacular scenery, breath-taking landscape and a great sense of comradery, you will also visit some of Plan Ireland’s projects and see how you’re helping to develop a brighter future for children.
Donal says: “I’d really encourage the runners and walkers of Tipperary to get involved in these spectacular events. Plan Ireland’s international challenges are different. You will get a real feel for the countries and their people. We organise home-stays throughout the trips. You get to visit Plan’s projects on the ground. You get to challenge yourself in some of the world's most spectacular scenery and you have loads of opportunities for free time to explore and enjoy.
“Everything is sorted from flights, accommodation, food, internal travel, participation in events, guides, sherpas and porters, insurance, and much more. You will be very capable hands throughout the journey and together, we will, no doubt, have the adventure of a lifetime.
“There is a great tradition of supporting good causes in Tipperary, so I feel these events are the perfect match!  As an employee of Plan Ireland myself, I know the difference which our local projects are making to the lives of children. A difference which you’ll be able to see yourself as the challenges include visits to some of our projects.
“Plan Ireland already receives tremendous support from people in Tipperary with hundreds of people from the area sponsoring children with the organisation in Africa, Latin America and Asia. With public support, together, we can continue to drive real and lasting change for some of the world’s poorest children. Join our community today. Get involved. Now is the time.”
