Development works at mental health unit in limerick

The HSE has advised that a new entrance is being put in place for the mental health in-patient unit at University Hospital Limerick pending redevelopment works at the hospital.

From Monday, April 27th, visitors and clients seeking admission to the in-patient mental health unit, 5B, will be diverted to a new temporary entrance pending completion of the final phase of the redevelopment project.
Unit 5B is undergoing a comprehensive redevelopment, which will provide 50 in-patient acute beds for the Mid West region. This new unit, which is due to be completed by the end of 2015, will offer clients a high spec, modern, bright and spacious environment in which to receive treatment to aid their recovery.
The redevelopment of Unit 5B has been approached on a phased basis to facilitate the ongoing clinical service being delivered. Phases one and two are now complete with phase three anticipated to commence on Monday, April 27th. The new unit will provide enhanced accommodation with specialised areas for patient treatment and recovery. These include rooms for art therapy, a training kitchen, hair and beauty salon, gym, private courtyards, and rooms for group therapy as well as a fully equipped multisensory room. In addition, hospitality and family rooms have also been provided. The colours and artwork for the new unit have also been carefully considered to create a more therapeutic environment.
From Monday next, visitors and non-emergency admissions should proceed to Unit 5B through the main entrance of University Hospital Limerick and follow the signage for Unit 5B as usual. At the end of the green ramp, take the exit to the left (through brown double doors to car park) and then, turning right, proceed to walk around the outside of the building, using the new footpath, until you reach the new temporary main reception. This new access route and entrance will be clearly signposted from exiting the main hospital at the top of the green ramp. Anyone experiencing difficulty in locating the new temporary main entrance can call  061 482354/482260 for assistance.
The Mid West Mental Health Service would like to thank clients, family members, staff and service providers for their ongoing support and cooperation with this redevelopment project, and apologise for any inconvenience experienced.
