Campaign to take flouride from water supplies in tipp

A campaign is underway in County Tipperary to remove flouride from public water supplies amid fears that it could be harmful to human health.

At a meeting of the County Council in Nenagh on Monday, the Independent Thurles based councillor Jim Ryan tabled a motion  calling on the council  to support his call in demanding the removal of flouride from water supplies.

Councillor Ryan said Ireland was now the only country in Europe with a national flouride policy. He said the World Health Authority had found there was no benefits to be had from the consumption of flouride. It had stated that excess intake of the substance could be harmful to young children.

Councillor Ryan proposed that the council write to the Minister for Health calling for an end to flouridation of water.
