George murphy to play nenagh

Acclaimed Dublin singer-songwriter George Murphy will perform at Philly Ryan's in Nenagh this Saturday, January 17th, from 10pm.

George became a success following his performance in 2004 on the RTÉ talent show 'You’re A Star'.  He captivated audiences with his powerful traditional Irish voice, reminiscent of the late Luke Kelly. He subsequently went on to record his first album 'Dreamed a Dream' with Sony and reached No 1 in Ireland with triple platinum sales.
Following the initial album success, George was embraced by the traditional Irish Music scene and would go on to collaborate on recordings and tours with Irish icons including Phil Coulter, The Dubliners, Aslan, The Fureys and Paddy Casey.
George went on to spend a lot of time playing in the American market around New York and throughout the States, gathering a strong following and releasing the album 'The Ballads of Archie Thompson', a collection of traditional songs featuring Irish greats such as John Sheehan and Barney McKenna (The Dubliners), and Christy Dignam (Aslan).
George has recently re-released a track and video for the ever-popular ‘Raglan Road’ with echoes of the great Luke Kelly, to coincide with the 30th Anniversary of Kelly’s death on 30th January. He recounts that having performed around the world, ‘Raglan Road’ has become one of his most requested songs. He is donating proceeds of the single to the Simon Community, supporting Ireland’s homeless community.
'Most exciting vocal find in Ireland for generations' - Phil Coulter; 'George has a voice beyond his years' - Ronnie Drew; 'Stayed very true to the origin of the songs' - Peggy Seeger.
