Route of Sunday's Garrykennedy 10k fun run

Garrykennedy 10k fun this sunday

The third annual Garrykennedy 10k fun run/walk in aid of Scoil Mhuire, Portroe will take place in Garrykennedy village on Sunday 23rd November at 1pm sharp.

This year we will be raising much needed funds for our local Primary School, Scoil Mhuire in Portroe. Registration for the Fun Run will be held at Ciss Ryan’s, Garrykennedy from 11am until 12.30pm. The warm up will be conducted by Evanna Morrissey from 12.45pm until 1pm and Evanna will also bring along the much coveted Olympic Torch, which she proudly carried in the lead up to the London Olympic Games. There will be photo opportunities with Evanna Morrissey and the Olympic Torch, so please don’t forget your cameras, but Pat Ryan has agreed to be our resident photographer on the day just in case!

Darren Gleeson has very kindly agreed to start the race and might even be available later to show off his hurling skills.
The event will be free of charge, but we would ask that you make a donation to
the school on the day, or alternatively you can take sponsorship cards, which are now available from Scoil Mhuire, Tony Gleeson’s, Seymour’s Bar in Portroe
and Ciss Ryan’s and Larkin’s in Garrykennedy.
After the Fun Run, there will be complimentary refreshments provided by Roy and Denise Breen at Ciss Ryan’s Pub, Garrykennedy for all participants. Each entrant will receive a voucher for refreshments when they sign up for the race. There will also be complimentary shower cards available from the organisers
on the day for all participants after the race and the showers are in the Garrykennedy harbour area.
Christy O’Connor Jnr has confirmed that he will be in attendance and Christy will be happy to compete against any local players who would like to challenge him on the day for a small fee. There will be live entertainment all day long provided by some local, very talented musicians. There will also be
entertainment for the kids, provided by Giggles Entertainment Services
from 3pm to 5pm at Ciss Ryan’s. There will be face painting, balloon modelling,
a disco and some special guests who promise to provide lots of fun and games for the kids.
The Garrykennedy 10k Fun Run/Walk is open to all walkers, joggers and runners, so whether you are an elite athlete or a Sunday stroller, this is the event for you. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd man and woman home. The first man home will receive the Jimmy Duggan Perpetual Trophy (kindly donated by Duggan Brothers, Templemore) and the first woman home will receive the Tony and Breda Gleeson Perpetual Trophy (kindly donated by the Gleeson family, Portroe). There will be lots of spot prizes on the day, which have been donated by various local businesses.
All proceeds from the events happening in the village on the day will go to
Scoil Mhuire so please give as generously as you can. Further details can be found on our Facebook page ‘Garrykennedy 10k Fun Run’. We look forward to seeing you there.
