Kevin walsh goes on a solo

After 32 years  with the Nenagh Players, Kevin Walsh goes it alone when he performs the humorous one-man show, 'The Sand Park' in Dun Mhuire, Nenagh from November 27-29th.

Written by the All Ireland winning actor Seamus O' Rourke, the play revolves around an Offaly farmer James Anthony Lowery, as he visits the graves of his son James Anthony who was killed in a car collision when he was 14, and his recently deceased wife, Rose.

Returning to the spot every night, he hashes out memories and anecdotes of his lost wife and son. Despite his loss, he has not lost his ability to laugh at the world, or himself.

He speaks of his daughter's dislike of stew, their fondness for fast food, the proper way to slice a sandwich, and goes on and on discussing both the mundane and the profound for over an hour.

This one-act monoglgue is a journey into the heartland of rural Ireland. Lowery is a rural Irish everyman, and though haunted by death he punctures the morbid subject matter of the play by finding humour all around him.

'It's a nice gentle piece of theatre that is full of humour and wit,' says Kevin Walsh who is looking forward to his inaugural solo run.

Tickets, at €8, can be purchased at the door over the three nights of the production The performance starts at 8.30pm.
