Garda injured at nenagh checkpoint

A garda was injured and a high-speed chase ensued after a driver failed to stop at a checkpoint in Nenagh last Friday night.

The incident happened at around 11.30pm when the male offender drove through the garda checkpoint. The garda received leg and hand injuries.

A high-speed chase ensured, during which the offending driver reportedly drove in the wrong direction up Abbey St. He was pursued down Kenyon St and onto Martyr's Road, where he was stopped and arrested. The man, who is in his late 20s and not from the Nenagh area, has been charged with dangerous driving. Gardaí say further charges may be made in due course.

Meanwhile Gardaí in Nenagh are also investigating a robbery at a shop at Carrig, Riverstown last Tuesday week.
A man entered the shop around 6.45pm and demanded a shop assistant to give him all the money in the till. He made off with a sum of cash and cheques.
The man is described as being 5ft 10 or 11 in height. Possibly aged in his 20s, he spoke with a local accent. He was wearing a grey jacket and grey sweat pants at the time, and had a cloth mask covering all of his face apart from one eye.
Gardaí have examined CCTV footage of the incident and are appealing for witness information with their inquiries.

Several people were arrested for the unlawful possession of drugs in Nenagh over the last week.
In one incident, a man in his late 20s was arrested on suspicion of drug dealing at St Conlon's Road last Friday. A large quantity of amphetamine tablets and cannabis herb was seized. The man has been charged with possessing drugs for the purpose of sale or supply.

There were also six burglaries reported over the last week in Nenagh, Newport, Roscrea and Toomevara.
