Councillors fail to show at roscrea meeting

County councillors have been criticised for failing to turn up at the latest meeting of the Roscrea Community Development Council (RCDC).

Tommy Murphy, a resident of Ashbury, bluntly expressed his disappointment at the failure of the nine councillors  on the Templemore-Thurles Municipal District Council to show at the the meeting in the Abbey Hall in the town on Thursday night last.

Mr Murphy said it was 'an absolute disgrace' that not a single councillor turned up the the meeting. They were able to come to Roscrea when they were looking for votes prior to the local elections.

He suggested the people of Roscrea stage a demonstration outside council property in the town as a way of displaying their disappointment at the no-show by the councillors.

RCDC Chairman, John Lupton said all the councillors had been sent an invitation to attend the meeting, but only Councillor Michael Smith (FF) replied, saying he could not come because he had prior engagements.
