Ballinderry tree farmer Matt Fogarty

Vote for ballinderry tree hugger matt

Ballinderry tree enthusiast Matt Fogarty is competing in the Just Forests National Tree Huggers Contest 2014.

Fifteen people (high-profilers in their own career/sectors) are competing for the votes of the nation.

The contest is not about the tallest, broadest, oldest or most beautiful tree.

'It is all about what that particular tree means to the person entering the contest,' according to contest organisers Just Forests, the Offaly based development education (DE) charity and forest campaigning group.

Each participant was asked to select a tree that has a special place in their heart and write a short piece telling us what the significance of that is.

The tree/story with the most votes will be Ireland's nomination in the European Tree of the Year 2015 Contest.
Ballinderry native Matt Fogarty is one of the 15 participants in Just Forests' National Tree Huggers 2014 Contest. Matt, now in his 81st year is one of Ireland's great tree enthusiasts and is responsible for the establishment of 50 acres of mixed woodlands in Ballinderry.

Voting for Ireland's most loveable tree will continue for the whole month until Friday 31st October. You can vote for your favourite tree/story at www.lovemytree.ie.
